Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Sports in G--
* NFL Top Five--
* Indy -- Peyton and gang just win baby!!!
* New Orleans -- have made me a believer and are playing at a high level week in and week out on both sides of the ball.
* New England-- Tom Brady and Mr. Bill are still hard to leave out of the top five. With all the talk about "The Call" Don't forget that this team outplayed the Colts for most of the game. Oh YEAH and they still have Randy Moss!!!
* Minnesota- Even with Adrian P and Brett, The defense is the key to this team . Led by the best line in the league.
* San Diego -- The newcomer to the top five . This team is starting to live up to all the expectations. Phillip Rivers will soon challenge the Mannings and Bradys of the league . LT the younger will be a stabilizing factor as this team moves forward.
* Nothing crazy expected this week in College Football.
* Notre Dame will replace Charlie and the guess here is Bob Stoops. He is from the midwest and I think the challenge will be something that will light a fire under him. That leaves a big question........... Who to OU??? more on that to come.
* Speaking of OU the Bedlam game with OK St will go a long way in determining the participants in the Orange, Sugar , and Fiesta Bowls . TCU and Boise will be pulling for the Sooners.
* Look for the Lakers to go on a run with Gasol back.
* The Hawks are the team to watch , Fun and talented .
* The Magic are getting healthy and Dwight Howard is becoming a leader. This bodes well for them.
* Big games next week in NCAA B-ball .
* UNC dropped too far in the polls . Syracuse is going to remain in the mix all year.
* Texas has some show me games coming up with a chance to show the East coast press its talent. Games with UNC and Michigan St offer great opportunities to show that we have more than one sport down here.
* Wed. will bring an edition featuring Sports that are not touched on as often here !!!
Texas Sports--
* The Mavericks depth has shown in the early success . Dirk is playing like he wants another MVP. No one else has been consistent but someone different has been stepping up most nights. They need to continue to give The German nightmare more help as the season goes on.
* Rockets are a scrappy team and fun to watch. They have a big week coming up Dallas and SA!!! Great coaching job being done by Adelman.
* The rumor of the Spurs demise has been greatly exaggerated . They need to get healthy . Pop is doing well not to over extend his vets to secure early wins. He is The best coach in the league and as the season play out it will show.
* Horns/ Aggies week. Look for the Aggies to play on emotion and keep it close for maybe a half. This Texas team is on a mission and Mack , staff and the Seniors remember how the Ags kept them out of the Big 12 championship with an upset at Kyle Field. Look for Texas to pull away in the second half.
* The Cowboys won. I am the first to say a win is a win, but Romo and crew need to get the ship right . A game against the Raiders just may do the trick!!!
* More on other Texas college B-Ball teams coming soon.

Player of the Day--
* Who else??? Colt McCoy , the winningest quarterback in college football history!!! Colt that is the greatest accomplishment I can think of in your sport. It means you led your team through good games and bad games and won despite whatever obstacles presented their self. Congrats from 3PM , YOU will be missed at Texas!!!

Day 8/ Nov. 20, 2009

Hey Sports fans!!! Today I am going to run down my top ten college basketball teams.

1. Kansas-- Big Cole Aldrich and Little man Sherrod Collins lead this team that returns the top eight scorers from a solid team last year. Newcomer Xavier Henry who was to go to Memphis before Callipari left for Kentucky will be the key as to whether the Jayhawks can win it all this year.
2. North Carolina-- Deon Thompson leads the best front line in the country . Larry Drew II was a big time recruit at point guard and needs to step up his game if the Heels hope to repeat.
3. Texas-- Horns may be the deepest team in the country . Great recruiting class coupled with Damion James and Bigs Dexter Pittman and Gary Johnson have Longhorn fans daring to dream about the Daily Double (Football and B-ball Nat. championships in the same season)!!!Freshman J'Covan Brown solid. Bradley and Hamilton are stars in the making!!!
4. Villanova- Best back court in the country . Led by Scottie Reynolds look for them to make a big run come tourney time, when Guards can lead you to the Final Four. Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes can really score on the wings .
5. Michigan State-- Solid team led by guard Kalin Lucas. Durrell Summers has All American talent and needs to be the MAN if this team expects to make it to Indy!!! Tom Izzo gets my nod as the 2nd best coach in America.
6. Duke-- Speaking of The best coach in America . Coach K is and will be until he decides to hang em up. Just ask USA basketball. Kyle Singler is a scorer on par with anyone. Jon Scheyer may be my favorite player in the land. Duke needs to get some production and defense from its Bigs in order to give UNC a run for it's money in the ACC.
7. Purdue-- Robbie Hummel is a player of the year candidate. He can score , rebound and play defense. If you haven't seen him play watch a Purdue game , he truly represents what college b-ball is all about. How much help he can get out of JaJuan Johnson and guard Chris Kramer will tell this teams story this year.
8.Kentucky-- Biggest recruit was coach Callipari . He brought several big time recruits from Memphis. Most notably John Wall who is a point guard similar to Derrick Rose. Patrick Patterson is solid inside. May have the best starting five in the nation. Team chemistry could hold this team back.
9. Butler-- The Butler did it!!! This mid major will be there with the big boys come March . Gordon Hayward is the best player you have never heard of!!!
10. Syracuse-- Jim Boheim has an ultra talented team led by Arinze Onuaku and Wesley Johnson. Look for them to challenge Nova for the big East.

Player of the Day
Michael Jordan -- Come on NBA retire the Greatest of all time's number!!! BTW 3PM Sports land... Any time I get a chance to mention MJ i will!!!

Quote of the day

Day 6-7/ Nov. 16. 2009

After a brief hiatus (Friday) 3PM Sports is back . Big weekend , so let's get to it!!!

Sports in G--
* The Pac-Man put it on Cotto . I will never pick against him again. He did what I feel is one of the hardest things to do in sports beat a bigger man who is a quality fighter. Paquiao vs Mayweather would be epic. Hope it gets done next year.
* PUNT THE BALL!!! Great game between the Pats and Colts. You have to show some confidence in your defense. Even if the Colts and Peyton drive 60 or 70 yards and beat you. For the defense's psyche down the road, you have to punt . Coach Bill is still one of the best, but even the best make wrong decisions and this was a horrible call.
* Huge win for the Bengals this team was built to beat the Steelers. The AFC playoffs are shaping up to be classic. Pitt and Big Ben will be there. The Chargers are playing like a contender.
* Minnesota and N. O. in the NFC look destin to meet for a berth in the bowl!!! The other contenders are too inconsistent. More on that later.
* Texas , Florida , Bama all three won and continue the road to the Championship game with the SEC championship game deciding which team will play the Horns.
* Stanford is a solid football team in a weak Pac 10. QB Andrew Luck will be an All American in years to come.
* So So CAL otherwise known as USC is not a good football team. Pete Carrol has had an amazing run and deserves a lot of credit. But as cocky as he has been . You can not fault fans for enjoying this down time for the Trojans . Heck even fellow coaches are joining in with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh going for two in the 4th quarter with a big lead and then giving it back to Pete when questioned during the post game shake.
* Congrats to Michelle Wie on her first win on tour. Look for her to be a multiple winner and take a major title next year.
* Hawks - If this young team can keep making shots at this rate and play a little more defense the East race could include them.
* Nuggets - are gelling earlier than expected and with Mr. Big Shot, Chauncey Billups, leading the way are scarry.
* Suns are playing great as Steve Nash shines , he needs to get some help and rest if they expect to continue at this pace.
* College B-ball top ten with conference previews coming Wednesday .
Texas Sports--
* Texas continues it's roll. I look for big wins against Kansas and the Aggies, with a possible game with Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game being the only game possibly giving them trouble. The Horns need to stay sharp and attentive. I think Greg Davis has somethings in the cupboard look for these plays to be used in the final games if nothing else then to have the potential Title game opponent have to be aware of them.
* Houston sorry fellas I guess my praise jinxed you!!!
* TCU continues to impress. Wow I would love to see them play Texas in a +1 game after Teaxs beats Tebow and the Frogs handle Bama. Yeah I said it!!!
* He will always be a Texan to me so congrats to VY, just win baby. Bud Adams, show some class buddy!!!
* Spurs beat Mavs to show who owns the Lone Star State!!!
* All three NBA teams are off to a good start. Mavs and Spurs need to get healthy but the will take the small injuries this early in the season. Look for both to get better and battle it out for the division. Rockets will prove to be inconsistent due to age and lack of bigs scoring.
* The Cowboys coaching staff and stars are to blame for there inconsistency . They did not show up on Sunday. No leadership . Awfully disappointing . I hoped they watched Peyton's gang Sunday night and learned something about being a team and never giving up.
Team of the week--
A local feel this week, The Lake Travis Cavaliers. The dominate high school team has won 41 games in a row and is looking to three-peat as State Champs. After loosing Garret Gilbert to the Horns some looked for them to slip. They have not and continue to dominate. Good Luck from 3PM!!!

Day 5 / Nov 11

It's Hump day!!! Time to touch base again. The interview that was planned for this week hit a scheduling snag and will be in a future post, soon.
Sports in G--
* The Jimmy The Greek special on ESPN was great, thanks to my boy D. Nelson for reminding me to watch.
* Did you see the woman's soccer game between NM and BYU ??? WOW , that girl made Spikes from Florida look like an altar boy!!!
* Notre Dame is a BAD team with a really good QB. This team was so overrated simply because they are the IRISH. Weis is a great offensive mind, but with the depth of his game plans he is far better suited for the pro game. Look for him to be fired as they continue their late season slide.
* Upset alert -- West Virginia over Cincy. They have the athletes to stay with the Bearcats. Also, Look for Spurrier's boys to keep it close with the Gatots.
* Thursday night games on NFL network start this week. Shame on the NFL for keeping these games away from so many.
* Chad O. Yeah I'm not calling him that is back to playing as well as he talks. With Benson showing what he is capable of the Bengals are a team to watch. Big game with Pitt coming up.
* The Cardinals are also playing better. How old is Kurt Warner like 60??? He is playing lights out.
* Good luck to Kareem, on his lukemia battle truly one of the best of all time.
* The HEAT are surprising me. D Wade needs to not wear down.
* More NBA on Friday
* I promise some NHL next week.
* In NASCAR The man wrecked early last week but come on it's over. Congrats JJ!!!

Texas Sports--
* Ok , OK . Big Props to the Houston COOGS. Keenum deserves to be mentioned with MCCOY and Dalton. Last year was the year of the Big 12 QB this year it is the year of the Texas QB'S !!!
* Speaking of the gunslinger, Colt, look for him to take the lead in the race for the H with another big game this week. Baylor was a trap game until they lost Griffin at QB . Texas is not Mizzou and look for the Texas defense to harass Baylor into at least 3 turnovers.
* Romo needs to keep spreading the ball around and the trio at running back and o-line need to play big on the frozen tundra!!!
* Good luck to all Texas High School teams as the playoffs for V-ball and Football begin. Play hard and respect the game!!!
Athlete/Team of the Day--
On this Veteran's Day I would like to acknowledge the Navy football team. Even though the Irish are down this year They have better athletes and are supposed to beat Navy every year. The Midshipmen won this game by hitting harder and playing with more heart and execution. CONGRATS and THANKS.

Day 5/ Nov. 9

Hope everyone enjoyed the exciting sports weekend.

Sports in G...
* Zenyatta wins the Breeder's Cup in outstanding fashion, The Filly beat all the big boys. Congrats.
* Colts and Saints stay undefeated . Look for Indy to lose in one in the next two weeks , while the Saints will lose one to either N.E. or Atlanta in week 12 or 14.
* The Giants are reeling fast , no playoffs this year. Look for the Bears to keep falling also.
* Congrats to the Bucs , you got ya one. Josh Freeman has the tools to stick around as a starting QB.
* Pitt over Denver tonight !!!
* Wouldn't a Pitt vs Dallas Super bowl bring back memories!!!
* Oregon is three spots behind USC in the BCS poll!!! REALLY , didn't they just destroy them??? The PAC 10 is so overrated anyway.
* TCU to # 4 WOW fear the frog!!! Iowa proved what most were thinking, good team that had some GREAT breaks .
* Tebow is one hit away from not being around he runs the ball too much . I hope he stays healthy would love to see him against Bama and the Texas defense's
* Golf - Phil the thrill is back!!! Tiger will be there come Major time next year remember he lives to break Jack's record and these events don't claim his full attention.
* Lakers and Celtics still tops in there division. Gasol needs to get better for Lakers to stay there.
* Mavs and Suns surprising early, but it is early.
* AI already in the news for off the court stuff. I love you but just play ball.

Texas Sports--
* Horns looked sharp in second half. Need to stay on the mission in Waco this week. SWAGGER BABY!!!
* Sergio Kindle is finally living up to the hype and making himself some money in the process. Look for him to be a top pick in the draft after showing out this year.
* Colt is alive and kicking in the race for the H. Shipley is Shipley and that says alot!!!
* The BOY'S ARE BACK!!! Ok Ok I know it is early but the win at Philly was huge!!!
* Like the play of the Cowboys secondary. Philly had been scoring in bunches and has two of the best young receivers in the league in Jackson and Maclan.
* Texans came up just short, could have been a signature win. How they react will tell alot about Kubiak.
* Mavs are playing like they just might be a factor after all.
* Spurs fans need to let this team come together. They have one of the best front offices in basketball and they will be there at the end. Pop will put the people in place and figure out how to use them by season's end.

* Event of the Day
Pacquiao vs Cotto-- Finally a fight that should live up to the hype. Pacquiao is the pound for pound best in the world and Cotto is the best at this weight . I am taking the bigger man , Cotto, in what I think will be a fight to remember. For boxing's sake let's all hope so.
* Quote of the DAY--
As we say goodbye to Baseball till next year here is on from Ted Williams,
"Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer.

Day 4/ Nov. 6, 2009 NBA Preview/Overview

From time to time an entire post will be dedicated to one sport. This is the first of those. I hope it is informative and gets you ready for a great N.B.A season. Teams will be listed in order of predicted finish within the division with playoff teams in all caps.

Western conference
* Northwest Division--
1.DENVER - This is Carmelo's chance to prove something. Mr.Big Shot (C.Billups) and Kenyon Martin are solid. Look for great regular season. Lack of defense and bench hurt come playoff time(see Battier from Houston).
2.UTAH- Deron Williams may be my favorite player in the league Utah will continue to play great at home and make a playoff appearance. Boozer's and Okur's play in the paint will be key to how long the stay around.
3.Portland- Best young talent in the league. Roy will continue to be an all star. Aldridge needs to play consistently night in and night out. Oden's health will still be key to how much they can do. Love the Andre Miller pick up.
4.Okc- Sorry Kevin Durant Loved you on the sideline at the Still, but this team is too young Look for Durant to be among the league scoring leaders all year. Russell Westbrook will have a solid year.
5.Minnesota- Who??? Al Jefferson deserves better. Johnny Flynn could prove to be a solid point guard in the league.

*Pacific Division--
1.LA LAKERS- The Champs got better with Artest. Bynum and Gasol staying healthy is a must for a repeat. Kobe is still best all around player in the league with apologies to Mr.Duncan.
2.PHOENIX- Make the playoffs , but longer scare the top teams. Stoudamire is overrated and Nash is aging, look for him to tire as the season goes on.
3.Golden State- Loss of Baron Davis hurts this squad too much. Love Steph Curry to become a solid NBA player. Look for Stephen Jackson to be picked up by a contender.
4.LA Clippers- Baron Davis is a PLAYER and with Camby and Kayman as bigs they should be a better team. Look for bad chemistry and a tough Western Conference to keep them out of the playoffs.
5.Sacremento- Kevin Martin is a star on a bad team. He is out with a fractured wrist . Tyreke Evans is only reason to watch.

*Southwest Division--
1.SAN ANTONIO- Jefferson is a perfect fit for this team. Dejuan Blair will contribute as a rookie. Look for some surprise losses early as they gel as a team.Timmy D is on a mission. If Ginobili stays healthy, they will challenge the Lakers for the West.
2. DALLAS- Dirk is all NBA. If all season pick up Shawn Marion can return to All Star form, and the Jet (Jason Terry) continues to be the best 6th man around, look for them to challenge the Lakers and Spurs.
3.NEW ORLEANS- CP3 keeps his team just ahead of the Rockets. Not a top tier team. David West and Emeka Okafor both make my overrated team.
4.Houston- Lots of athleticism, but losing T-mac and Yao is devastating. Battier would be a great pick up for a contender.
5.Memphis- I love to watch A.I. play. He is not the guy to bring in on a team with this much youth. O.J. Mayo will have a great year.

Eastern Conference
*Southeast Division
1.ORLANDO- Vince Carter pick up was a nice move. Jameer Nelson staying healthy will be key with Courtney Lee gone. Dwight Howard is a beast top three, in MVP voting this year.
2.ATLANTA- I love the Hawks. Look for them to surprise and push Cleveland as third best team in the East. Joe Johnson is most under appreciated player in the league. Josh Smith and Marvin Williams are fun to watch.
3.MIAMI- Dwayne Wade is the man. Beasley needs to step up in order for them to make any noise in the play offs.
4.Washington- Agent Zero will score and will be fun to watch, but the bigs on this team will keep them just outside of the playoffs.
5.Charlotte- Two good young point guards, Felton and Augustine. Other than that, they are bad, bad, bad.

*Central Division
1.CLEVELAND- LeBron is LeBron and that puts them in the top three in the East. Shaq is not longer Shaq and this team needs more scoring to make a title run.
2.CHICAGO- The Baby Bulls will make the second round of the playoffs. D. Rose is a stud, look for him and Loul Deng to have big years.
3.DETROIT- Need for Kwame Brown and Ben Gordon to star. That is asking alot. Great organization but down this year. Dumars won't let them be bad for long. They make playoff but not a factor.
4.Indiana- Granger is a scorer. Murphy and Ford are solid, look for them to make a run at the eighth seed.
5.Milwaukee- Need Redd to get healthy soon just to stay out of Eastern cellar. Not enough fire power.

*Atlantic Divistion
1.BOSTON- Beast of the East. Rasheed as a role player will be big. Marquis Daniels pick up was great and will prove to be just as valuable. Big three are still solid.
2.TORONTO- Make playoffs, Hedo and Bosh carry the team. Bargnani's play at center will be key as to how long they stay.
3.Philadelphia- Look for Philly to slip out of playoffs. Elton Brand can change this with big play.
4.New Jersey- Young talented team. Look for them to pull off some upsets. Devin Harris is solid, look for playoff team to pick him off this roster.
5.New York- Sorry New York fans, David Lee is your best player. Start the bidding for Lebron. At least the Yankees have won.

Calling Lakers / Spurs in West with Mavs pushing them
Celtics/ Magic in the East with the Cavs and Bulls pushing them.
MVP top : Dirk, Kobe, LeBron, Duncan
Hope this helps you enjoy the season!!!

Day 3 / Nov 4

I will be using Wednesday's post to touch up on a few things and hopefully post some interviews/ chats with some sports people. I am lining up a former UT football player who now is an on air sportscaster for next Wednesday!!!
Sports in G
* Saints will not go undefeated!!! There has been talk about this but come on Reggie there is a lot of games left and they now have a target on their back.
* Moved Minnesota into my top 5. There defense not AP or Farve is the key!!!
* Look for Indy , Dallas and Pittsburgh to flex some muscle this week.
* NBA rundown with picks and rundown of each team on Friday!!! A must read.
* Leave Andre alone, we should be worried about what performance enhancing drugs the current tennis players are taking and not what a past player took that probably made him play worse.
* My predict comes true tonight. Yanks win it in 6.
* Eye gouging huh, come on Spikes you are too good for that. Learn your lesson.

Texas Sports
* Early game, weak opponent . Let's see all the REAL Texas fan get riled up and loud for this game and welcome the horns back to DKR!!!
* Texans can prove a lot against the Colts.
* Aggies got the prove it run coming up.
* Oh for the old Southwest Conference and a Texas / TCU matchup!!! that would be a great game. Oh well at least you can do it on X-box.

Player of the day
Yes Mavs fans it has to be Dirk. 29 in the fourth quarter!!! As one reader of this blog said "That was some Jordan like !@#$!!!"

Quote

Day 2/ Nov. 2 , 2009

Sports in G

* Yankees in 6 is still the call here. Cliff Lee wins tonight for the Phils but that's there last hurrah !! Johny Damon's at bat was classic. MVP to him or Marriano R.
* VY got The titans one, we will monitor the situation.
* Colts play bad and win, that is what champs do, my early pick to win it all.
* Look for Denver to lose a few more soon.
* B-Farve does it to the pack again, good for him he's a legend there and the owed him better then that!!!
* Says here San Diego and Baltimore have big 2nd halfs of the season.
* Saints dominate tonight . Brees needs to stay healthy!!!
* The top two teams are there and I'm saying Horns and Gators book your tiks to Pasadena!!!
* Upset alert kinda--- LSU beats Alabama Saturday.
* Iowa , wow 5 int's and you win the game!!! That's living right!!!
* USC was and still is over-rated they were never in the game at Oregon.
* Look for Tennessee Vols to be a top 5 team next year. Great coaching staff!!!
* Serena beats Venus for final title of the season. It seems like they could do this every week if they choose.
* The crashes were the story in NASCAR , great TV but scary!!!

Texas Sports
* The Longhorn defense is a BEAST.
* G. Davis who is not my favorite person is doing something I like and reigning in the calls with big leads. Texas is still scoring, but I believe they have alot still unused in the play book. Look for this to pay off in the Big 12 championship and in Bowl game.
* TCU -- Andy Dalton is a super qb , if you haven't seen him or the Frogs play , catch a game you will be impressed.
* A&M is on the rise, upcoming games against top teams in the South will tell just how much. Look for them to be a factor next year.
* Good solid win for Cowboys, running game and Secondary will bey key against Philly.
* Texans continue to impress, Kubiak's kids may prove me wrong and make a playoff push this year.
* Props to Texas Womens V-ball team!!! Still undefeated!!!

Players of the day
Curtis Brown, Blake Gideon, and Earl Thomas--- This Halloween proved far sweeter than last years. Each had an Interception and are playing great........ Almost makes you forget Crabtree...... Let's win in the Rose Bowl and no one will remember!!!
